RUMBLER FOR W 60 BOOSTS PRODUCTIVITY

Wirtgen America, Inc. makes it easier to install milled-in rumble strips with the Rumble Strip Milling Machine W 60, or W 60 Rumbler.

The W 60 Rumbler is a standard W 60 cold milling machine with an optional Rumbler attachment installed. The Rumbler attachment permits high-production cutting of milled rumble strips in the preferred 16-in. width at speeds of up to 180 fpm.

The Rumble Strip Milling attachment is mounted on the W 60 platform as an option. By itself, the W 60 milling machine offers a practical, cost-effective, high-performance solution for today’s milling and utility contractors who want to pre-cut or pre-mill up to 12 in. deep and 24 in. wide. The W 60 has the horsepower and weight to work well in both asphalt and concrete pavements.

Addition of the Wirtgen Rumble Strip Milling attachment makes the W 60 even more valuable to an owner. Together they result in a durable, reliable cold mill for general milling use, combined with a proven milling technology for cutting milled rumble strips in shoulders, or down centerlines of two-way pavements.

The W 60 Rumbler features a six-sided rumble wheel with urethane pads, powered by a hydraulic rumble wheel drive. The Rumbler drum and wheel can be mounted on either the left- or right-hand side of the W 60, with easy cutter access. Wirtgen America can provide custom drum widths if desired.

A simple wheel/pad assembly rolls along the pavement surface to lift the Rumbler drive in and out of the cut. Special patterns can be achieved with special rumble wheel pads, and intermittent patterns can be achieved with an available Skip Line Kit.

The W 60 Rumbler cutter drive is an extension of the W 60’s standard drum drive system, using a mechanical belt drive which has proven more efficient and reliable than hydraulic drive for the heavy shock cutting employed by the W 60 Rumbler. The beefed-up, heavy construction of the Rumbler frame assures long life for the unit in light of its high-fatigue application of cutting rumble strips.

A standard, long front pointer is designed for stable, accurate correction when on the job, essential for tracking intermittent references like a “drip” line or dashed centerline. Also, a short pointer is installed as a standard. Both provide a dual reference which can give the operator a better sense of the W 60 Rumbler’s position.
