| The Wirtgen 2500 SM, introduced at Bauma '01
in Munich, offers flexibility and supreme performance when mining
soft material and hard material without blasting.
There are many impressive facts about the 2500 SM. With a weight
of 114 short
tons, an engine output of 1,050 hp and a cutting depth of nearly
2 feet, this miner is even more powerful than its proven predecessor,
the 2600 SM.
An additional plus is the mechanical drum drive which transfers
the available engine power to the cutting drum with the highest
possible efficiency. The machine has a working width of 8.2 feet
(2.50 m) and can produce up to an impressive 1,980 short tons per hour when
working in soft rock.
On both the 2200 SM and 2500 SM, cutting depth and slope angle
can be precisely defined via an integrated leveling system. The
machine can be optionally equipped with a laser controlled cutting
depth adjustment, wire-rope sensors or contact-free triple sensors
(Multiplex system).
For transport purposes, the miner can be dismantled into individual modular
components.
With the models 2200 SM and 2500 SM Wirtgen has developed extremely
flexible and supremely powerful machines. Their modular design makes
it possible to adjust particularly the cutting drum and drum drive
to each given operating condition and to varying geotechnical rock conditions. That means that these surface miners can be efficiently employed
in road and tunnel construction, as well as in mining applications.
