The Wirtgen Surface Miner line consists of four surface mining machines, and one underground dinting machine that are used to mine coal, limestone, gypsum, granite, sandstone, tarsand and various other minerals around the globe.

Generally minerals are mined by drilling, loading, blasting and crushing prior to further processing. But more stringent environmental regulations to restrict vibrations, noise and dust emissions compel surface mines to find alternative, cost-effective solutions that meet their needs.

Wirtgen surface miners are economic, environmental-friendly machines that offer numerous advantages under everyday mining conditions in surface (open-cast) mines.

Using the Wirtgen Surface Miner rock is mined, sized and loaded during one operation, thereby achieving a substantial reduction in machinery and personnel. The mined material is crushed to the desired gradation during the mining process. Since a primary crushing plant is not required, additional savings can be achieved.

The application of a Surface Miner does not only eliminate the need for drill and blast and all its inherent environmental issues such as noise, dust, vibrations and fly rock but offers also a substantial economic savings potential.

A Surface Miner can also be used for floor lowering in underground applications or road cut construction without drilling and blasting.

The Wirtgen Dinting Machine rehabilitates service and transportation tunnels in underground mines, producing a clean, level surface, and subsequent savings in vehicle wear thereby enhancing mine productivity.
