Operating Techniques School

Who should attend:

Any who serve as crew members (operators, groundmen, or supervisors) of a milling machine or recycler. No prior knowledge of Wirtgen equipment is required.

Overview:

The operational techniques school will be conducted on a job site with a machine provided by the contractor (those who request the school). Its purpose is to train personnel how to properly operate both the machine and the grade control system. Safety will be stressed.

This will be a hands-on school with a lot of operational time.

The duration of the school can vary to accommodate the needs of the students.

Objectives: variable length course

  • Provide students with an understanding of all operational controls and their proper use
  • Provide students with an understanding of the grade control system and how to use it effectively
  • Provide students with a understanding of how to resolve common grade control problems
  • Provide students with an understanding of the proper techniques of operation of a milling or recycling machine
  • Provide students with supervised operational time on the machine
  • Acquaint students with safe operating practices

Course Program

Day 1

  • Safety awareness
  • Understanding of set-up and operation of the grade control
  • Understanding of machine’s operational controls
  • Understanding of proper operational techniques
  • Drum maintenance
  • Practical operation


Day 2

  • Practical operation

Dates:

These schools are available on a request basis only. They are usually conducted in the early Spring or late Fall. The scheduling of these schools is dependent upon the availability of Wirtgen service personnel.
