  • New Hamm 3307 VIO provides choice of oscillation or vibration

The new 3307 VIO soil compactor from Hamm Compaction Division gives contractors the option of either unique oscillation or conventional vibration soil and base compaction in a 66-in.-wide drum machine, but in a smaller package than the existing 84-in. Hamm 3412 VIO.

The 66-in.-wide drum of the 3307 VIO achieves an oscillation or conventional vibration frequency of 2,160 vpm, with a centrifugal force of 27,675 lb., oscillating or vibrating. The 3307 VIO has a travel speed of 7.7 mph and is powered by a Deutz BF4M 2011 diesel engine generating 87 hp.

Hamm's exclusive oscillation compaction is ideal for fast compaction above softer bases or other materials that could be disturbed or damaged by conventional vibration. Yet the 3307 VIO permits the operator to switch to regular vibration for conventional compaction.

Oscillation compaction works by imparting a horizontal force into the base material, side-to-side, rather than by forcing it downwards by an up-and-down motion. The drum never leaves the material.

Unlike traditional vibratory compactors that achieve compaction by bouncing the drum on the ground, oscillation technology ensures that the roller drum maintains constant contact with the ground for faster, more effective compaction. In the 3307 VIO, movement of exciters within the drum changes its direction of effect during one turn, so it generates an oscillating or rocking motion of the drum.

Horizontal forces are transmitted from the drum into the material. The result is better compaction in fewer passes, with less vibration-related wear and tear on operators and surroundings.

The 3307 VIO features an ergonomic driver's station for perfect all-around visibility, a convenient information display, variable hydrostatic all-wheel traction drive, hydrostatic steering, great engine performance and high climbing power through traction control. A three-point articulation joint for highest driving comfort is provided, and Hammtronic electronic machine management is available as an option.

Advanced engineering goes deep into these compactors. For example, the operator's platform was designed to enhance comfort and productivity. The platform allows entry from either side of the machine, full visibility to either side of the drum via a swiveling and rotating seat, full 3-ft. by 3-ft. rear visibility with the new engine cover design, and dual seat-mounted, 5-in-1 control levers.
